Opening of the meeting

On March 22, 2022, the first APMA online General Assembly was held since Chairman Myung-sun Yoon was elected. CIAM President Eddie Schwartz and Honorary President Lorenzo Ferrero delivered congratulatory remarks and brief updates on CIAM activities. Above all, Marek Hojda, a ZAiKS member and ECSA member, attended as a special guest and explained the current situation in Ukraine, along with the activities ZAiKS is carrying out for Ukrainian creators. Mr. Marek expressed his deep appreciation for the interest and support of APMA members and said that they would work together to cooperate with APMA in the future.


Report of APMA activities

There was a report of APMA activites in 2021. In December 13, 2021, a new Chairman, two Vice Chairpersons, and Executive Committee members were elected. Myung Sun Yoon of KOMCA (S.Korea) was elected as a Chairman, Amanda Brown of APRA(Australia) and Aashish Rego of MCAI(India) were elected as Vice Chairpersons. A total of 1 General Assembly and 3 Executive Committees were held throughout last year, and the APMA secretariat was transferred from JASRAC to KOMCA with the appointment of Chairman Yoon. Lastly, APMA new website was launched.


Copyright Buyout study Phase 2

Professor Alice Lee from the University of Hong Kong attended the 2022 GA and presented her Copyright Buyout Study Phase 2. The countries covered in Phase 2 included China, India, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Taiwan. Professor Lee emphasized that unfair terms and conditions in buyout contracts should be revised and the right to receive fair compensation should be guaranteed to the authors.


Discussion on key agendas

APMA looked into the initiatives that should be highlighted in 2022; Private copyright remuneration system, CMO establishment and operation support, Demand for the amendment of Copyright Act and Priorities issues in 2022.


Other discussions

Chairman Yoon gave a speech about the APMA contribution. Mr. Yoon emphasized that CMOs should stipulate regulations enabling the CMO to remit contributions when its member is appointed as an executive member of the CIAM affiliated creator alliance and is charged of such contribution, as the creators alliances play a significant role in stabilizing and encouraging creator activities.

APMA members have agreed on holding the next Executive Committee meeting in September, and the attendees were hoping that the next meeting will be a physical meeting as the pandemic situation is getting better.
