APMA uploads Copyright Buyout Brochure (“A Creator’s Survival Guide”) on our webpage to raise creators’ awareness of copyright buyout.
1. What is a copyright Buyout?
It refers to the act of handing over one’s copyright by receiving a one-time fee, and once the copyright Buyout is completed, the copyright of the work cannot be owned and controlled. Also, it is an act in which the creator himself or herself cannot receive the accrued money from the works they created.
2. An outline of brochure production
To raise the creators’ awareness, we have created this brochure so that we can form a community to share experiences and make correct decisions. In this regard, the brochures are translated into each country’s language and uploaded to the APMA website.
3. Suggestions to share brochures
The JASRAC/APMA Copyright Symposium in March 2021 put much weight on this matter, copyright Buyout is an important issue that creators must be aware of. We would like to inform creators in the world and prevent unfair contracts in advance so that creators can protect their rights by using a knowledge as their safeguard in the future.
4. Comment from APMA chair, Myung Sun Yoon
Myung Sun Yoon
Chairman of
Asia-Pacific Music Creators Alliance (APMA)
“We music creators must be fully armed with the understanding of a copyright buyout and its consequences. APMA will strive to create an environment where music creators not only in the Asia-Pacific region but also around the world can receive fair remuneration for the use of musical works through their own autonomous decision.”
